  • With Joules, High is Good: A surge protector is like a shield that blocks excess, potentially damaging energy spikes from flowing into your gear. This protection is measured in something called Joules. Every time there is a surge joules are used so the higher number of Joules rating means your surge protector can sustain more (or larger) energy spikes. 
  • Look for the Light: No matter how high the Joules rating, all surge protectors eventually wear out, losing their Joules and potentially leaving your components unprotected. That’s why it’s important to get one with an indicator light that alerts you if your Joules have run out. Depending on where you live, this can take a couple of years or upto 7.
